Brawl Taunts

"Best Brawl Flash To Date [715]"

submission: Brawl Taunts
date: May 7, 2008

GREAT voice acting for the theme/characters.... PERFECT animation (I love teh crude stylings, and even with the lack of backgrounds, there was so much variation in the ways you drew characters' faces from moment to moment).... and most importantly, a great script.

Taunts + Smashes + Making fun of SSBB character foibles.... so great.

I got SSBB on the release date, and played pretty much constantly for the first three weeks, mostly offline, but some online with friends on WFC, but I never really got that Sonic is cheap. The only thing I've seen him be cheap for is some of the target smash records, in fact. But I guess you just meant for his smash being overly effective?

In any event, I certainly knew the deal on Ike. My gf's fave character. Mine's pikachu. And if there was anything that this flash was lacking... it was... Well, just pikachu, really! A pity. But it made me a laugh a lot nonetheless, and even got my gf to laugh out loud (at the "noises Link makes" segment) as well. KUDOS TO YOU FOR THAT GREAT PUBLIC SERVICE!

Phoenix Wry

"All, the elusive Phoenix Wry.... [714]"

submission: Phoenix Wry
date: May 1, 2008

My gf just bought all 3 Phoenix Wright games and the Apollo Justice game for our DSes a few weeks ago, and she's just now finishing game 3. SHE'S MAD FOR THAT STUFF.

Me, I tried the first case in game 1... and it was okay, but I found it tiresome and boring trying to convince the judge the witness was the actual perp...

That said, I've long known about the Phoenix Wright/Phoenix Wrong fever on teh NGs, so I happened upon your flash back when you submitted it. I'm gonna get my gf to watch this, but she'll only watch PW flashes on NG once she's done with the games. Fear of spoilers. #;-}>

I liked the Pulp Fiction bits and the Jim Cramer moment and of course the Night at the Roxbury finale. HEAD-BOPPING FTW.

Good lipsynching for the most part, too. Well done!

Hydroelectric Documentary

"Really awesome educational flash"

date: April 27, 2008

You may not know it, but this is far from the first one I've seen here on NG and will probably not be the last, either. Though they are few and far between, every now and again we get a good one, and this is one of 'em.

I really liked the graphical presentation and your description of how the potential energy of water in a reservoir is unleashed on turbines to generate electricity. Your comparisons to coal, oil, wind, nuclear power were all fair, except that I think drawing green fumes coming out of a nuclear power plant while talking about uranium being non-replenishable is a bit misleading...

Uranium is indeed a depletable resource, but those towers on a nuclear power plant only let out pure steam. There is no toxic fume component to their exhaust.

Also, you mentioned all the positives and didn't mention the one negative with dams: their effect on river ecology downstream... and the flooded out basin that is required to produce the reservoir. Because of these omissions, your flash has a bit of a propaganda vibe to it...

But on the whole, it's a good educational video. Well done!

April 27, 2008

Author's Response:

Woo Propaganda!!
Anyways, I wanted toemphasize on how bad Nuclear Reactors was to Hydroelectricity because I want people to think positive on Hydroelectricity more than anything, but I didn't know that the Nuclear Reactors let out pure steam guess I learned something too. Anyways, reason why there were no cons was because this is Pro Documentary showing all the Pros in Hydroelectricity not the Cons because this would influence people to think Hydroelectricity. Now that I think of it that last sentence does make this documentary sound propaganda-ish. Anyways Glad you liked this educational experience!

Ng Voicemail #973

"Absolutely epic."

submission: Ng Voicemail #973
date: April 26, 2008

But tell the truth... was that really the 973th voicemail you guys have received, or is that just a bullshit number? Heh...

Anyway, that was an amazing display of insane stalker-fanboy-crushing-on-Tom-Fulp madness the caller put on... and I can see why liljim demanded it animated.

Good show, Stamper. As always. This one's right up there with Rebecca and Queers of War. NO. FUCKING. ROOM. FOR. IMPROVEMENT.... except... animate more insane voicemails, plz!

lolBatman ep. 420

"Ah, what a way to ring in 4/20... [711]"

submission: lolBatman ep. 420
date: April 20, 2008

Great work, sirrah. It was a pleasure to help protect this a few hours ago, and even more of a pleasure to now review it. 4 * 20 = 80 and 8 * 10 = 80, so I give this an 8 out of 10. 4/20 LOGIC FTW.

First of all... some of the "close-up views" of Batman's face made me think of Ren & Stimpy, so that was great in and of itself... sometimes the close-ups got a little... overly simplistic and... white-background-with-some-scribbles-
on-it, however.

But the ACTION SCENES... more than made up for that. The movieclip of Batman running towards the camera that you used first near the start.... then being used to show a pot-addled Batman crashing through a window.... was brilliant and freakin' hilarious.

The music changing from the Batman theme song to... whatever that was, however... I think lessened the effect. You shoulda just looped the Batman music the whole way through. Fortunately, since the movie itself loops after the end.... the Batman music DOES return, so that's great. #;-}>

Lastly... "A POO?!" We should all reflect on the deeper meanings here. That swastika... has disturbing implications for the citizens of Gotham City!

SmashCrashTeroids

"Nice title screen! [710]"

submission: SmashCrashTeroids
date: April 20, 2008

Really enjoyable, if simple, game too.... I liked the graphical touches that set it apart from other Asteroids games. From the ship itself being a little more detailed than usual.... to the little PaintShopPro-ish "spray paint tool" ion gas clouds (I guess....) thrusting out from the ship's engines.... and especially the nifty effect when you either break up a bit asteroid into chunks or destroy the final, smallest pieces... really nice little "poof."

My own criticism, in fact, would be that your ship has way too much of everything... if it's going to have as effective a gun (I mean, it can not only go off screen and come back on from the connecting point... but the bullets/whatever pretty much can reach back to the ship itself... PLUS the powerups are godly... I got a 8-shot in level 2, and twice in level 3 a 360 degree 1-time clear-out thingie... and then in level 4 or 5 a really nifty "wave beam" a la Metroid)....... then surely either the thrust/turning should be a bit slower so you can't get out of the way or blast your way out of ANY situation.... or else you should die on one hit, just like in the original Asteroids. I mean, great firepower + decent maneuvering ability + shields/armour.... = way too easy!

But fun, nevertheless.

Pokemon Bahamut Version

"On what number out of 493... [709]"

date: April 20, 2008

Do the "generation III pokemon" start, anyway? (EDIT: wait, let me guess... after 150, per the Professor's freaking out about that number? #;-}>) A pity about teh Afro's decision. I know you guys had such fun with all that stuff. A few of them had good songs, so I never minded 'em much, aside from... the waste of space and all, of course.

Wheeee, NewsReporter in a GameBoy title screen! Interesting... I wish you could click on all the ... uh... pokemon, I suppose... in the title screen and get to hear what they all say in turn rather than having to back out of the menu to go back and check it out. Graham's voice wasn't even audible over the theme music, BTW. You and Afro and a few others, OTOH, were fine.

It's kinda funny, sometimes you pronounce pokemon "pokey-mon" and other times "pokeh-mon" as it should be. But anywho.

"my 100th flash will be..." damnit... I zoomed in to read that crap, but then the camera moved on... so wotevah.

LOL! Bahamut and Graham picking out the starter pokemon like two idiots arguing over whether they'll be playing the rock, paper, or scissors.... IN ADVANCE.... greatness.

Why is Graham's voice so much damned lower than everyone else's?!

Rare candies? Master balls? WTF are those? #;-}>

LOL! Cheat glitch. BOOM.

Good stuff. And I say that without having played 1 second of a pokemon game. EVAR. I have seen about 20-40 minutes of the pokemon show, however. #;-}>

Generation III Pokemon start from #252 to 384.

Talking like Professor Oak wasn't easy, so I ended up pronouncing Pokemon as Pokeh-mon. :(

So you found my hidden message? Nice one. :)

Graham's voice lower? Must be Pokelord not talking loud enough or close enough to the mic. I could higher the volume but then the sound quality will suck.

Master Ball = Special Pokeball that can catch any Pokemon without failing.
Rare Candy = Raises a Pokemon's level by 1.

Shame on you for not spending a single second playing on the Pokemon games. :P But I'm glad you still enjoyed this flash anyway. Thanks gfoxcook! :D

Grand Theft Auto Quiz

"BAHAMUT!!!!! [708]"

date: April 20, 2008

You silly silly dragon. (ahem) BTW... re: your response to the last reviewer (on review #36... bah, I have to be review #37 ;_;).... does that mean I'm unintelligent and can't type worth a damn? IS THAT WHAT YOU THINK OF ME? #;-}>

Okay.... question 1 and 3... super easy. Question 2.... huh? I don't remember Raining Blood being on the soundtrack for Vice City. 2 Minutes to Midnight and Electric Eye I totally remember.... but maybe Electric Eye was on Vice City Stories. BLEH.

ROTFL at question 10.

QUESTION 11. SO ANGARY. SO VERY ANGARY, BAHAMUT. So disappointed.

But yes, I do have to hand it to you on question 12... that is true.

Question 13... whatever. Question 14... dude! There's plenty of good stuff on the GTA:SA soundtrack. Maybe not as much as on the Vice City and Vice City Stories soundtracks, but still!

19.... come on, man. Come on. Don't be a Jack Thompson butthole who can't distinguish fantasy from reality. And you may have your tongue seated firmly in your cheek for things like 19... and especially 11, too. Even a Jack Thompson fan isn't going to claim he's the best person EVAR. Sheesh.

... but still. Even typing that in jest... is... so filthy. You claiming whatever the hell song that was on the final screen is the best song ever is far less insane. O_O

Anyway, the quiz was halfway decent, so you get a halfway score. And hey, whaddaya know, your review average was already 5.0/10 before I hit send on this one. STATUS QUO, ALL THE WAY.

lmfao, 37th review...Well actually, this is the 37th existing review for this flash. About 20 reviews have been deleted so far because of people flaming me. It wasn't me flagging them, though.

I thought Raining Blood was on Vice City. I remember my friend playing on it and heard Raining Blood.

Also, don't take my Thompson support seriously. That's a trolling tactic of mine. ;) Infact, you shouldn't be taking my response for other reviews seriously. I'm just acting like a total dickhead here.

So your review score didn't touch the overall review score at all, YAY! Thanks gfox!

OmgLasersPewPew

"Great title.... great concept... [707]"

submission: OmgLasersPewPew
date: April 18, 2008

Execution... needs more.... something. I mean... come on, lasers going pewpew is.... crack for us flash gameplayers. You had us with that. You had us... BIGTIME. #;-}>

First of all... it'd be nice if when you disabled most of the right-click menu features, if you'd at least left the quality options there. Yes, you put a quality toggle in the game, but when I tried to use it once the gameplay had begun.... even though the quality reduced, the game lagged up, and when I clicked there was still the "pewpew" sounds... but no lasers visually... and indeed, the enemies got to my laser, despite the fact that had the "pewpew" really meant lasershootingness... they'd have been dead. Not to mention that quality toggles NEVER work as well as being able to see which quality you're selecting in a right click menu. That's my #1 beef with flash game makerers... when they take away our rightclick quality options. ;_;

In short, lowering the quality to speed up the game mid-gameplay... ended up killing me and lagging everything to hell. That makes zero sense, man.

And before you ask, no, while not super-fast, the gameplay hadn't been lagging before I tried to lower quality, my lasers had been operating normally and killing enemies (only about 10 or so... but still). Oh well. Kinda marrs what coulda been a great lasery experience. On my next playthrough, I made sure to hit the quality toggle right away... and I did manage to get it down to low and start shooting enemies before any of them reached me... successfully this time.... but when they started crowding me about 10 enemies on screen (after I'd killed 50+), this one big bubble of lag happened, and when the lag stopped, I was already dead. ;_;

Surely you could code this to not be so... laggy. Please? From your comments to others, it sounds like #2 will have a new engine. I'll have my fingers crossed, but please consider leaving the quality options in the right click menu?

April 19, 2008

Author's Response:

That was quite possibly one of the best reviews I have ever had :P thanks =D

I know where you're coming from with the lag, but nobody has ever given me feedback about the right-click menu and thank you very much for that =D i will be sure to make sure quality toggles are always in my right-click menu from now on =]

Frisbee Fro

"Fairly fun frisbee...ing [706]"

submission: Frisbee Fro
date: April 18, 2008

I helped save this the day you submitted it, but took awhile to get around to reviewing it, as is my wont.... so anyway, I enjoy the basic premise of the gameplay... slinging golfballs, tennisballs, baseballs, frisbees... just about anything.... at targets in a sort of driving range/shooting range/batting practice type environment is always fun, provided the engine doesn't completely blow.

I think the control aspect of flinging the frisbee with the mouse cursor works well enough, though it's way too easy to flub a throw and massively underthrow it on your 5th throw, even when throws 1 through 4 were FREAKIN' PERFECT, which is kinda irritating. I also kinda wish there were more target areas, including maybe in the far left and right corners. That'd be nifty.

I think there's only one change I'd really make for sure, though: Make it where you can click ANYwhere on the screen to go to the next throw. Having to click right on the frisbee's kinda... eh. Non-intuitive, I guess. Also, if I were you I'd clear your scoreboards. Either people figured out how to hack the boards or they were exploiting the bugs earlier on in your game's life (i.e. that 5 million point bug someone mentioned about 5 reviews ago). Those issues aside... great stuff!
